If you tend to eat the same foods day in and day out, you are probably in a "food rut." It's time to treat your taste buds to new foods and flavors. Since seafood is heart-healthy, try a fish you’ve never eaten before. Or, in honor of St. Patrick's Day, experiment with new green fruits and vegetables.

This is a good time to be thinking about what you eat.The American Dietetic Association has designated March "National Nutrition Month" to focus attention on the importance of knowing what you are eating, developing sound eating habits and being physically activie.

The ADA says we need to consume adequate amounts of dietary fiber from a variety of plant foods. How much is enough? Women need 25 grams of fiber every day and men need 38 grams. If you can't get enough fiber at the dinner table, a fiber supplement can fill in the gaps.

By eating a high-fiber diet, you can lower the risk of developing several chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease. Find out more about healthy eating with the ADA's Good Nutrition Reading List, which includes, books, newsletters and websites.
