New Ideas About Losing Weight
Weight loss is a simple matter: eat less and exercise more. Temptations, however, often knock us off track. If you were counting on the Food and Drug Administration to approve a new weight-loss drug, you are out of luck. The FDA recently denied approval of the weight-loss pill Qnexa because of concerns about side effects, which include memory lapses, suicidal thoughts, heart palpitations and birth defects. Now what? You've probably heard that dropping no more than one or two pounds a week is the safest weight-loss route to take. But a new study by Australian researchers shows that losing a lot of weight at once is a more effective way to permanently slim down. Test subjects who lost more than 3 pounds a week were more motivated to stick to their eating plan (which included healthy foods in moderate portions) than were those who lost weight more gradually. The researchers note that this was not a crash diet, which is considered to be unhealthy. Read more about the study here.
